About me

Khiren Roy was born at Matia, a small village of Goalpara district of Assam, India's northeastern state, bordering Myanmar. He did his M.A. in English literature, a higher course in Mass Communication organised jointly by the Press Institute of India and the Thomson Foundation, U.K. Later he earned a Ph.D. degree in Mass Communication from the Gauhati University.

He joined The Assam Tribune, premier English daily from the India's northeast and after two decades, he left it as its deputy editor to become the founder editor of new English daily, The Northeast Times. After about four years, he left the job to start a new publishing house, The Frontier Publication Private Limited and with the help of other financial partners, launched a new Assamese daily, Asomiya Khabar which commands the largest readership. He is the Chief Editor of the daily.

Besides editing and writing both in English and Assamese, he has been engaged in teaching Journalism and Creative Writing at the Gauhati University, Indira Gandhi National Open University at Guwahati and Shillong. His weekly column, viewpoint in English and Dristikon in Assamese are highly appreciated by the readers. He has completed two novels in English and at the moment he is giving the final touches on the plot-structure and maintaining the story-line. On May 14, 1975, he married Gayatri and fathered two daughters, Arupa, an MBA, married to an engineer from Maharasthra, India's western state and the second daughter, Antara is doing her M.A. in English literature at Bangalore, the garden city of India.
