Guwahati: Eleven academics and journalists of Assam on Tuesday issued an appeal to the people of the State to join in large numbers in the protests against the visit of U.S. President George Bush to India. The signatories included Prof. Amalendu Guha, Prof. Hiren Gohain, Sri Anil Roychoudhury, Prof. Bijanlal Choudhury, Prof. Abdul Mannan, Prof. Monirul Hussain, Prof. Rekibuddin Ahmad, editors Haidar Hussain, Khiren Roy and Hemanta Barman, and journalist M. S. Prabhakara. “Mr. Bush must not be allowed to get away with his project of re-colonisation. He must be told that the people of India are irreconcilably opposed to this project,” the appeal added. |
